Get Rid of This Man, Today.

tar-and-feather-voting

Ace legal authority Charles Knight, Republican Central Committee Chairperson, announced his “legal” advice to voter fraud in Seneca County in the Advertiser-Tribune. Apparently Cuyahoga and Hamilton Counties have NOTHING over Seneca County on voter fraud. During the election and continuing through today, ten’s of thousands of provisional ballots were called into question from both sides of the political fence. However, the national news completely missing the biggest story in the United States, so call CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News, because Seneca County had TWO citizens cast TWO ballots! CALL OUT THE NATIONAL GUARD! GET THE TORCHES! GRAB THE TAR AND FEATHERS!

According to the A-T, “Leahy said two individuals submitted two ballots. In one of the two cases, a college student received an absentee ballot then went to a local polling location to vote. In the other case an individual voted at one location, then went to a second location to vote.

Leahy said the voter who voted at two polling locations may have made an honest mistake.

“I don’t think they understood what they were doing,” Leahy said. “The poll worker probably told him, ‘you should be voting here’ after he already voted. So he thought he was suppose[d] to go there.”

In each case the second ballot was submitted as a provisional ballot and was not counted, but the board said the cases merited further investigation. Deputy Director Jane Sheeley said voting twice constitutes voter fraud and is a felony.”

And now the coup de grâce

Clearly ignorance of the law and honest mistakes have no place in THIS county.

“”We have people who are making honest mistakes,” board member Charles Knight said. “But they are going to continue to make honest mistakes until we act and advertise that you can’t do that. One way of doing that is by threatening to put them in jail.”

Knight said he would like to summon the two voters to meet with the board to explain why they cast two ballots”"

Great idea, that way we will not need to track them down like the dogs they are. Make them come and accept their punishment like REAL men, (or women, or students).

And thank God that the defeated county prosecutor has been alerted – the same man with the crack legal advice that helped create the courthouse mess.  That way he can be sure to get the case before Grand Jury, along with the hardened criminals who have late fines at the library, before he leaves office!

“Board President Francis Marley Jr. said the county prosecutor was the appropriate officer to investigate potential voter fraud. Marley said the prosecutor’s office was already aware of some issues related to the election.”

Golly, is it just me, or could this possibly be a case of COMPLETE AND TOTAL OVER-REACTION TO A MINOR MISTAKE???? This is not a case of groups aggressively recruiting voters under less than honest circumstances. This is two people for heavens sake!

Knight is an embarrassment to the Republican Party. Vote him out, ask him to resign, whatever it takes, but this party will never make it with him at the helm. To take a line from John ‘Bluto‘ Blutarsky in Animal House, “Knight, gone,” because if the Republicans don’t make some major changes it will be “Republicans, gone”.

Local elections board sorting out double votes

  1. The Board of Elections should share in the blame. How were these two able to cast two ballots in the first place? There seems to be a flaw in the system that needs to be corrected.

  2. speak-
I agree with you completely that the Bd Elections had a big part in the blame. With all the additional hired help they had this election and the extra large office staff, they still managed to create chaos for another election. The deputy director is always complaining they need more help, more room, blah blah blah over and over and they get it all and yet this type of error is made? What is wrong in this county. I think a major housecleaning (hic cup) is needed there also. Whenever there is something for the employees to attend, all four go and they just close the office. I have seen this many times over the years. There are hard working people out there that would love these 40,000k+/year jobs that would be willing to work.

  3. I agree with you. All those girls over there do is pick on the Lady that works beside them in the Hallmark store.

  4. The Board of Elections DOES need more help at Election time and they do need more room. (BTW: I’m neither condemning or condoning the other stuff you are talking about, dudley and Wondering.) I just think that regardless of who is working at the Board, it is obvious more help and more space is necessary.

  5. amen!

  6. I think everyone is going overboard. Obviously, the error was caught so no one actually voted twice. That is why they are called provisional votes. I don’t think a worker at the board of elections is qualified to call something a felony. Is she a lawyer, the prosecutor..the judge and jury.

  7. Honest mistake or not, a person who violates the law is responsible for their action. Running a stop sign and hitting your car is an honest mistake but the driver still is responsible. Who in their right mind would think they can legally vote in two locations or vote w/ an absentee ballot and in person?

  8. How did someone vote at two locations? Before you recieve a ballot, they verify that you are registered at that precinct. Was that persons name registered in two precincts? Did the person actually cast two ballots, or did they just make the attempt? As the good Senator pointed out, these are legal questions.

  9. from what I have been told by many . . . you should take any advice charles knight gives and do the exact opposite of what he “advises”

  10. Here is how it works. In order to receive a ballot in the mail, you must fill in a form asking for one from the Board of Elections. Perhaps the student didn’t know if his/her ballot was actually received, so went into the precinct. The other person probably moved during the process, and was unsure of which precinct they should vote. I cannot believe that there was any nefarious intent, and in the end, the system worked. Both inconsistencies were caught. And unlike the stop sign example, no one was or could have been injured.

That was the whole point, that they are making a mountain out of a mole hill. These people were not recruited to vote by some head hunter getting so much per person to sign them up. Two honest mistakes, period. If you all think the Board of Elections could be run more efficiently, have at it. But Knight threatening to prosecute two people for this is unconscionable. We have REAL crime to worry about, not this nonsense from Knight. He is simply trying to make a name for himself, because he constantly is trying to get himself into an elected office by hook or crook.

  11. Scout-
Thank you for explaining this in detail-know it makes sense. I do not know Knight, but everyone who mentions his name says he needs to go. It sounds like what you said, honest mistakes that could happen to anyone of us. Maybe it was the college students first time voting ….who knows?
The Election Board needs a major cleaning house on-that is a fact. The director has a little problem, and the deputy director couldn’t tell the truth if it slapped her in the face. It is a shame-I have heard so many people are afraid to ask questions because of the treatment they get. The office needs to be more people friendly.

  12. I’ve heard that too! Obviouosly, the reports did not come from the same sources.

  13. An honest mistake that results in a violation of the law is still a violation of the law. My stop sign analogy still stands. No one was hurt? It could have resulted in a skewing of the election results. Student? You should all know how TU successfully manipulated the outcome of that referendum, which will result in vacation of not only Miami but also Clay streets and a closed campus. Those of you on the East side…Heidelberg is doing the same thing w/ the same Gillmor program.

  14. Can you believe the article in today’s A-T? I can’t believe the commissioners would even consider pay raises for County employees. They better start saving their money like everyone else.

  15. The main question to ask is this: Are the Commissioners and other elected officials going to give up their pay raises? Set the example first and maybe give another 10% before taking money away from the people that work in the county. Many times elected officials have income from other sources along with their county position;. Before you want others to sacrifice you should be willing to first.

  16. Good idea Blowfish. Just like with the auto industry. Maybe the executives and employees should all take a pay cut to save the business. Nobody wants to take a pay cut, but the alternative is no job at all.

  17. Go Blowfish-
Nutter will still get his raise with the City since he is union-either way his income will still increase, so why should he worry about other county employees. They deserve a raise also. How about starting in the Commish office and making the girls actually work 40 which they are getting paid for and make them give up their paid lunch. Come on Ben, you know better.

  18. Poor Sauber that will cut into his beer money, Nutter will have his toothpaste budget cut and there goes the Rolaids, or wait, Bridinger does not pay for those. How can those poor commissioners afford that. Ben, sell another car at the fire station for all of us….and we all know you do it. We are not stupid.

  19. evanrood: get your facts together. Only a small portion of Jackson Street is being closed. Miami and Clay Streets will both remain fully opened.

  20. Heidelberg is not closing Greenfield Street either. They plan to change the intersection of Greenfield, Market and Perry to improve traffic flow.

  21. First of all, I am NOT defending the man’s actions, but didn’t Bridinger already pay his debt to society over that incident? It’s not like he killed anyone. Why continually bring it up, as if he’s still doing it?

People screw up occasionally. When they get caught doing it, they pay the price, and if they learned anything, they move on and don’t do it again- shouldn’t the rest of society?

Besides, I personally know of things that Nutter and Sauber have done (from talking to people who saw those things with their own eyes), that make Bridinger’s past actions pale in comparison, morally and, yes, legally. Yet they seem to be able to have gotten away with them.

Makes one wonder how those things can be “covered up”, but not Bridinger’s former actions. What’s appropriate for one should be appropriate for all, elected official or not.

  22. In the spirit of the holiday season, I hereby encourage Scout to issue a moratorium on bitching on this website until at least Inauguration Day. It seems that SCB was at its best when Scout posted the thread about what we can do together to make Seneca County a better place.

To paraphrase the words of Rodney King: Let’s all try to get along.

Whether you like the commissioners or the auditor or lame duck treasurer and prosecutor or not, the election’s over and there aren’t any openings until 2010. Let’s share ideas and energy and set aside the venom. And, lest anyone call me a hypocrite, I’m starting with myself…

  23. This blog is to state our opinions and we have that right to do so. If you do not want to read it, stay off. Bitching is a way of venting and there is nothing wrong with that.
Bridinger is a jerk and needs to step down but why should he when people like you support him. Would you like to be in business and have him steal from you-I think not!
Let the bitching continue-go take your meds.

  24. FYI…Carty Finkbiner, mayor of the Glass City, announed that he is reducing his salary by 15%.
This sets a good example for elected officials cutting their budgets. Our commissars might follow his lead here in Seneca County. Sharing the mysery goes along way at reelection time.

  25. Clevis – What are you talking about? First you ask Scout to declare a moratorium on “bitching,” then you say “let the bitching continue.” I’m confused???

  26. I would like to give thanks, Thanksgiving is next week, to all the SCB’ers who have the guts to at least give an opinion on just about any subject that comes up on this blog.

As JC has stated, let’s get back to the nuts and bolts on how we can make our county better.

May all of you have a great Thanksgiving Day, with friends and relatives!

  27. A holiday reprieve from bitching? I say bah humbug, let the bitching continue!

  28. Clevis should be a politician; he can talk out both sides of his mouth.

That split personality is coming out again. Good thing that level passed for the Mental Health Board. Clevis, go get some help!

  29. jonnyquest: There appear to be two guys named Joe Clevis. Will the real Joe Clevis please stand up?

  30. What is this, the old “What’s my Line” show? Will the real ……

Clevis – Just bend the ends on the cotter pin. That should help keep everything in place or from falling out.

  31. Rodney King…now there’s a philosopher w/ a lot of insight…or is it incite?

Anon. Sure Miami will be open…but who will use it? It will be less convenient and car and TRUCK traffic will find other…residential…streets. Then, after TU has bought all the property along it, which they have every right to do, they can petition to vacate it.

Puddintame…loved your second paragraph. It makes the argument counter to scout’s effort in starting this thread.

Gosh I can hardly keep up!

  32. The phrase “piss and moan” originated in Seneca County.

  33. Asa: It’s better to be pissed-off than pissed-on!

  34. Maybe Joe has a split personality. Let the bitchin continue-it is what we do best!

I saw in the paper today where Egbert is back to work again…what a way to end the year!

  35. Alter ego is a nicer way to put it.

  36. Obviously one of his personalties is George W. Bush.

  37. I thought we got rid of the Bush clan. George W is history…let the countdown begin. Long live the Dem party!

  38. scout do you work or does all your blogger friends pay you to post this worthless stuff?

  39. I heard yesterday that Egbert is asking around about jobs. He said he is really hoping to find something with the AG’s office.

  40. Pay me? Ha! I do this out of the kindness of my hear. WordPress does not allow advertising either.

  41. Scout: Kindness of your what? Your “hear?” We seem to be suffering from PES, post election stress. Clevis has a severe case!

  42. heart.

  43. No, I did not talk out of both sides of my mouth. Some idiot cannot figure out how to create their own identity on this blog and stole mine.

  44. I believe there have been a couple different people trying to use the jonnyquest identity as well…

I suggest that it’s only a matter of time until there are Joe Clevis’s behind every tree and they will be here to overthrow the government, make love to our horses and ride off on our women!

  45. Sen McCarthy, leave the horses out of it.

  46. You may have a point there Senator! Is your first name: “JOE?”

  47. Maybe its Dale Williams.

  48. Yep, looks like an impostor to me. Joe II seems to be missing an avatar. And possibly a few other items…….

  49. Dale Williams has become the Seneca County scape goat.

  50. What’s up with the Miami Street project? In today’s A-T Councilman Steve Lepard is requesting that the board of elections refuse to certify the referendum.

Quoting from the A-T: “Lepard said in his letter an organized group sponsored actions he considered to be criminal during the final days of the campaign.”

    This sounds serious.

  51. Perhaps we live “too close to Cleveland.” Folks there are notorious for being anti-everything.

  52. I believe your Bd. of Election ladies closed shop for lunch yesterday, Friday.

  53. So, where do we begin ‘cleaning FIRST’ at the Board of Elections? Should it begin with everything that covers the seats of the office chairs – followed by the fingers on the keyboards, and the persons who stock the staplers?

  54. The Bd of Elections closes it doors all the time-begin by calling the 4 board members and complaining and let them know we do not feel this is right. Marley will let it go in one ear and out the other, but I feel the rest will listen. Marley is the lame duck-the Dems should replace him also.

  55. Why can’t they be removed.

  56. They can be removed, nutly. You have to go through the process and have the party rep find just cause and fire them. It is time to clean house on them also.

  57. Where is everyone? Wake up and lets get some fire back to the blog. I live for this! I wake up from my naps looking for some humor-please entertain me!

  58. Everyone’s flown south for the winter, or gone home for the holidays. Besides didn’t you hear that Joe Clevis declared a moratorium on bitching!

  59. Cleavis does not run the blog-he can not call a thing!

  60. That depends on which Joe Clevis you are talking about, the real J.C. or his imposter.

  61. A Nutter thing!

Let’s initiate the recall action necessary for clearing-out the Commissioners’ office.

There is no justification for us allowing such ineptitude to continue there!

  62. Mr. Spindler: What specifically are you talking about? As if I need to ask.

  63. I have it on good authority that a methane processing plant is locating in Seneca County

  64. I presume the Regional Planning folks will want to incorporate that new processing plant into the innovative measure to validate the remodeled Courthouse. [At least they would not have to deal with heating expenses -- and there is plenty of methane material available at the Commissioners' Office!]

  65. There is alot of gas all over this county-starting in the Auditor’s office-another employee quits-tells me new admin is no better than the last.

  66. There is a job for Egbert-he can but heads with Adkins. Priceless

  67. Ha! Now that would be priceless-both think they own the county!

  68. How many people named Joe Clevis (Cleavis) are on this blog?

  69. What does it matter how many there are?

  70. Beware of imitators! Accept only genuine Joe Clevis comments.

  71. speak-
How will we know the difference? Is Clevis someone special?

  72. Joe “The Real McCoy” Clevis will let you know. I refer you to his comment on Nov 21 at 7:54 p.m.

  73. There are billions of words and names in the English language, most of which I do not understand or know. However, it never ceases to amaze me how some dillrods feel the need to attempt to steal my identity on this blog. Get your own name and leave mine alone. Here are some unused names you can try:

    1. I stole Joe’s name
    2. Identity Thief
    3. Joe’s Personal Identity Pirate
    4. Unartful Dodger
    5. Ken Egbert’s Fan Club
    6. Ballreich’s Potato Chip Dip

Or, pick your own name. Be original. If you aren’t original enough to come up with your own name, then you cannot possibly come up with original thoughts relevant enough to post on this page.

  74. Why not start the Joe Clevis fan club. These creatively challenged people could be the “Clevites”

  75. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Joe.

  76. Say it ain’t so, Joe Clevage!

  77. Sorry to change the subject, but the dear readers of the blog should be aware that the “South Shaffer Park Drive Speed Trap” is open for business. Whether you’re cruising down 224 at 55, or driving out Market St. at 35, you’ll be in for a surprise when you use the Lowes/Mercy cut-thru. Be warned, this handy stretch of road is posted 25 mph, and it’s well patrolled.

  78. How about “Faux Joe”? Or maybe “Joe the Bummer”?

Speaking of the Shaffer Pk Speed Trap, does anyone else wonder why they need a crosswalk across 224? I see trouble brewing:

One slow person in the crosswalk
+ one speeding semi driver that isn’t paying attention to the
    new light
= How long will it take for an ambulance to get out there?

  79. Faux Joe sounds too much like decaffeinated coffee.

Puddin: I think there’s also a cross walk at WalMart leading to a residence.

  80. found-it: Did you get a ticket?

  81. Happy Thanksgiving ! I have just returned from our fantastic new hospital. It is really a place to be proud of, Great care, good food and you can order what and when you want it from a menu. The rooms are large plenty of space and room for someone to stay with you if need be. So for me life is good! I’m recovering and hope to enjoy another year. All though things look bleak right now. I look forward to the future. Like Obmha I belive we can do it. So have a great day and I’m sure I’ll find something to complain about tomorrow

  82. Hey Puddin: There is in fact a cross walk at Walmart leading over to the houses on the opposite side of the road. When those people built there 30 years ago, they probably never imaged having so much convenience right outside their doors!

  83. And think how the value of their homes has went up. Not many people have seen their homes increase in value recently

  84. Welcome back, Old Timer! I had presumed you were heading for a warmer climate and your husband had not given you that new “Blackberry” yet. I was guessing that he’d be giving it to you for Christmas.

Glad you had a good experience at the hospital! Remember — better medical services are always thirty miles away! No matter where you live in this old country, the lament is usually the same. Life is better somewhere else. Fishing is always better UP NORTH. Even when you are ‘up North,’ fishing is better somewhere else. Hospitals, legal services, churches…. everything is “better somewhere else.” It’s nice to hear that you had a good experience in our own town!

  85. Are you watching dancing with the stars finale? I heard Nutter wants to try out for this show since he can do everything else. He is my choice for fav twinkle toes!

  86. Yes, there is a crosswalk at WalMart. And yes, there are homes on the other side of the road. So that does make sense.

But what’s on the other side of the new hospital that anyone would be inclined to walk to?

  87. Puddin: Only “chickens” need a cross-walk. The brave just run out into traffic!

  88. Puddin:

You’re looking at it backwards. Someone figured that people would be walking TO the hospital.

Didn’t Sauber say that Lowes located there because of the hospital?

How often does someone wake up from surgery and remember that they forgot to buy 2×4s or spackling compound?

  89. I think it is necessary to give people the opportunity to walk to the hospital and Wal Mart safely. Quite a few patients that end up in the Emergency Room have to walk home afterwards. Some employees actually walk to work and with gas prices and the economy it may increase.

  90. Fish head-The people need the crosswalk to escape from that band aid station. Even though that bad boy cost 66 Million smackers, they still ship everyone to Toledo. We just got stuck with increased costs to be put in a holding tank until life flight can get here. Only in this county would we have an expensive hospital, no jobs for people, so actually it was built for the welfare people that refuse to go to a real dr and use that since they have no cost involved. Do not get me going……
I think I threw one of your heads back last week while fishing with Nutter.

  91. The cross-walk is so that people at Mercy can still walk to Wendy’s. It’s a long hike, but there are sidewalks and cross-walks all the way there.

  92. The crosswalk is there because the hospital is trying to take over the 224 bypass, eventually closing it off and making its campus extend all the way to Creegers. Mark my words.

  93. 2 x 4’s & spackling compound – hey, home improvements are always the first thing I think of when I wake up from a surgical procedure! Isn’t it that way for EVERYONE?? :-p

Who would want to walk to Wendy’s THIS time of year? Don’t they have a cafeteria in that place?

I figured that if they were planning to expand, they’d want to do so in the direction of 224, where it turns to head to Findlay….you know, towards Rudy Vela’s Fantasyland II.

  94. There is a persistent rumor that Wendy’s will be moving to a location near the hospital. I also see that the Dunn house at Honey Creek is for sale. It could be moved again to a location opposite the new hospital.

  95. Loves to Fish For the next couple weeks my immediate family and I are safe. Nutter is spending time hunting and no fishing. My sister-in-law deer head saw Nutter buying a hunting license.

  96. With the relaxation of phys ed at Columbian and fast food as the health provider’s food of choice, Tiffin will be dropping “The Education Community” as its billboard in favor of “Fat City”. XXXL tee- shirt sales at Peebles and Buck Nuts are skyrocketing.

  97. Yes you will be safe-but I will be after you when I return from hunting with Benji. Fish Heads always taste best in a big pot of homemade soup or with fish and gravy. I love to ice fish!
From the looks of some of the big ones that work at Mercy, they do not need Wendy’s out there. I suggest salad bars. A longer walking path might help also.

  98. I might just make a pot of fish head soup and drop it off in the lobby tomorrow. Where are you spneding Thanksgiving, big boy!
I just tasted my dressing and it is missing something-maybe I need to add you for some flavor.

  99. Asa: The “Big Boy” statue at Westgate could be the new Tiffin Mascot. Hope you pig-out for Thanksgiving!

  100. I thought our mascot was the big pig that used to be out front of the largest Commish home in Bascom-more appropriate for the hogs that live in this county. We need to trim alot of fat in this county.
A healthy diet of fish head would help…

  101. Happy Thanksgiving fellow bloggers-the diets have to wait until tomorrow. I have to much food left untackled here yet.

  102. Fish Head, I hope Nutter doesn’t go hunting with Dick Cheney.

  103. Maybe that crosswalk is there so desserts can be catered-over to the cops who guard the Shafer Parkway.

  104. Found It. He better wear a bullet proof vest if he does. Cheney shoots at everything that moves.

  105. Cheney will have more time to hunt in January. On second thought maybe he will have the same amount of time. I do not know what he does as vice president.

  106. Ken – What kind of dessert? Fruit suspended in green jello?

  107. They’re patrolling for people doing “donuts” in Lowes’ parking lot.

  108. Found it: You are probably right about the donuts. An addendum to that observation is the waistline of the cop I saw in a local restaurant last week. Believe me, that man needs more notches in his belt! Viewing him was more entertaining than a visit to the circus. He IS a PROFESSIONAL EATER!

  109. So Nutter is “Benji” now, huh? He sure gravitates to “dog” nicknames, doesn’t he?

I have it on excellent authority (from a former classmate) that his nickname in high school was “Odie”….the dog from Garfield.

  110. Picking on a profession for doing their jobs is a little low, even for the blog standards. If the sign says 25mph and driver’s get caught speeding 10-15 mph over that, who is to blame, the cop for doing their job or the speeder trying to get somewhere a few seconds faster.

The whole objective of speed, stop sign, red light, or other traffic citations is to stop accidents from occurring before THEY can happen. Now I will be the first to admit that is hard to understand cause no one can predict the future but statistics show that running red lights, speeding, other traffic violations are causes of accidents. The tickets or WARNINGS (no one ever admits to getting those which are handed out way more than tickets are issued) are part of the job description for a police officer / deputy so it is easy to pile on the criticism unless they are called to investigate an accident or crime for you or your family….

  111. Can you guess which Commissioner I saw shopping in Findlay this morning-and he had a cart full of stuff. It was all stuff that could have been bought in Tiffin, but yet we were out of town spending out county money, city money, or car sales money. I am appaled.

  112. What are the big problems in the Auditor’s ofice-does anyone know? I over head a conversation between employees about a prolem with payroll and a phone call and on and on. It was quite a deep discussion and with an employee quiting already I get the impression that our new Auditor does not have her office under control. Maybe Elaine would have been the better choice. We cleaned house on other offices, and it sounds like this one needs it also.

  113. Turkey Neck: I hear you can’t find the “Lego Build-a-Courthouse” toy in any of the local stores.

  114. Tonka wrecking ball sold separately!

  115. In 3 recent shopping experiences, Ace Hardware and Tiffin Sears went out of their way to help answer questions and find the right items. Their people know what they are selling. (B) Lowes and The Bentonville Arkansas Superstore were without a clue. Lowes sent me to their Findlay store since the required item was not in stock although listed on their computer inventory. I’ll return to Ace and Sears and not the big box dumps. Ace, Molyet’s, and Ralph’s are local businesses that deserve our support.

  116. Turkey Neck must have just been window shopping. Commissioners aren’t any different than the rest of us. Many residents of Seneca County are guilty of shopping out of county. When I’m in Findlay, Sandusky or even Columbus I see many of our Seneca County friends, yes, shopping with bags in hand or carts full. Maybe the problem isn’t just the Commissioners problem, I think it is a Chamber and SIEDC and FEDC problem.

  117. We DO have good stores in Tiffin/Seneca County. But people naturally want to gravitate towards the “big box stores”, where they can find the predictable old junk, in quantity, that everyone else feels like they have to have.

The little box shops weekend was a pretty fair success, I understand. I hope that experience opened some eyes in this town, and people will do more shopping here at home this holiday season.

I don’t shop on Black Friday. Too many crowds of insane people who’ll do anything to get their hands on stuff. Nothing is worth camping out for 24 hours to buy. I’m sure everyone read about the maintenance guy who was trampled to death at a Wal-Fart in NY, and most of the shoppers didn’t care. Sickening.

  118. Puddintame: I think they should prosecute everyone who contributed to the stampede that killed the worker at WalMart. It’s probably too late now, but at the time the authorities could have rounded up everyone in the store for questioning. That would scare some common sense into these crazy shoppers.

  119. I heard Bridinger was there pushing his way to the Rolaid aisle.

  120. Hopefully, they had functioning security cameras in there.

  121. Why does Bridinger always get beat up. He made a mistake which any of us could do. I know a few times I was at a store like Tiffin Hardware to pick up a small item and someone starts talking to me and I almost walk out without paying. I am not saying shoplifting is right but he has paid enormously for his crime. What about all the elected officials and others that drive under the influence on a regular basis. Some even have accidents on the way home and do not report it. I think drunk driving should be considered a more serious crime than taking rolaids. Drunk drivers can kill innocent people while driving home.

  122. Here’s a moral question for the locals to ponder. Why do we seem to welcome father Murd back into our bosom while still pillorying Mr. Bridinger for lesser transgressions? As a devout Catholic, doesn’t he deserve the same return to grace after paying his penance as the serial groper priest?

  123. All the drunks and miscreants that support Sauber are the same ones leading the charge against Bridinger.

Bridinger has paid for his crime, but he will still never be re-elected. Hopefully when Sauber hits bottom…he only hurts himself and doesn’t take anyone with him.

The Father Murd question is an excellent analogy, but it won’t be viewed as such.

  124. I think Murd should not have been welcomed back, should not be having contact with his old “pack” and is should be dropped. It sickens me to see these people act as if they have done nothing wrong.
If you talk to Bridinger, it was a one time thing. (ed. note. This has been omitted due to the libelous content.) Yes it should be dropped, but it will not be. This is life in Tiffin. (ed. note. This has been omitted due to the libelous content.) It will all catch up with them one day.

  125. By the way, Bridinger will get re elected. Just wait and see….he manages to say yes to everyone and keep peace and as long as the court house huggers are happy, things will not change.

  126. According to the Saint Mary’s bulletin, Fr. Murd will not be having any masses out side of the convent grounds.

I have known Fr Murd since he arrived in Tiffin and have served on a number of boards with him. His dedication to his parish duties can not be questioned, though his actions that have landed him where he is at can not be pushed under the rug any more. I hope that the treatment he received has helped him to straighten out this part of his life.

As for Mike, he does say yes to a lot of people, though never follows through with what he needs do. Talk to the people in Green Springs.

  127. Bridinger will not be re-elected, because the Reps have already severed their ties with him (according to Absolutely-Terrible coverage from when this all happened), and Bridinger himself said at that time that he will not run again. Which, in some ways, is too bad. I think that, were he allowed to do so, he could be a good commissioner.

I guess Nutter & Sauber will have to find someone new who’s back they can talk behind during public meetings, as if they weren’t there.

As for Fr. Murd, if he paid his debt to society, yes, he also should be allowed to go on with his life and profession. However, what he did was much more damaging on a personal level, and he should be required to live under the rules that all others in his boat are required to live under. With all due respect to anyone who may have lost money/merchandise over Bridinger’s actions, he didn’t physically hurt or mentally scar anyone. Murd did. His situation is not the same. But our society has rules people who commit those kinds of acts need to live under, and if he does indeed follow those rules, that should be that.

  128. Father Murd should not be allowed to go on with his profession-once the trust is broken he has no business being a priest. He got caught before with “his pants down” and avoided charges, and this time the charges should stand. Every time I see that man, it disgusts me.
We need some new topics…..how about what is going on this weekend with the Victorian Christmas and the house tour. Any info on that yet?
Also, what do you think of the new Lowes store? I refuse to shop there because I hear the treatment of customers has alot to be desired.

  129. So, what was it that guy in Israel said 2000 some years ago about casting stones?

Fr. Murd has made many mistakes. He would admit as much. Even priests are human.

Bridinger got caught doing something stupid, and has the reputation for doing this kind of act repeatedly and often, although that’s certainly not proven. Let’s judge both on their actions and service, and not their very public mistakes.

  130. Also, those of you talking about Murd’s “victims” obviously don’t know the entire scenario. There was no victim, but two willing participants. This was the entire reason for the acquittal.

  131. I admit I don’t know the entire scenario about Murd. I didn’t know him, so I wasn’t overly interested at the time.

I’d be willing to bet that there aren’t that many people on this forum who are perfect, and who’ve never made a mistake.

  132. Watch it puddinhead-Santa is keeping an eye on you because there are some of us that are perfect! We are the buddies of SCOEP!

  133. Well certainly the blog admin is perfect.

There is much more to the Murd story that was not relevant to the case in court. From my knowledge, I would say he should not remain as a member of the clergy.

I think we should give Bridinger a rest.

My time at the Lowe’s has been very positive.

  134. Anon should try shopping at Lowes before condemning the place based on hear-say.

  135. speak-
I have heard the same complaint from others-they will not get $1 of my money when there are places that welcome customers paying cash. We will see if the store makes it, or if we will have another large empty building in town. Care to bet on this one?
Scout-we know you are perfect. Santa does too and that is why there will be many gifts coming your way. Thank you for all the time you spend on bringing cheer to our lives.

  136. Anon: What specifically have people been saying about customer service at Lowes? I was only there once, and have no complaints.

  137. I think Lowes coming to town is great, but we should not forget our local stores–Tiffin Hardware has been serving our community for years. I’ll try to always check there first before buying at Lowes. The owners are local and the money you spend at Tiffin Hardware comes right back into our community.

  138. Tiffin Ace is great.
From my experience, so is Lowes.

I still go back to the joy of being able to buy a sheet or two of drywall about any time I want for my rationale behind being overjoyed at having Lowes here.

Tiffin Ace has many things available on a ready basis that other places won’t. If I need a certain lag bolt or lock washer or some quick painting supplies, I’ll go to Ace. It is nice NOT to have to search for what I’m looking for in Aisle 43.

However, if I want a wide supply of cabinet pulls, hinges, etc., or that sheet of drywall or six 2×4s at 5:45 p.m. on a Saturday, you better bet your bippee that Lowe’s will get my business.

We’re lucky to have both stores in town.

And, while we’re at it, Magers Lumber is a jewel of a place too when you consider the custom work they will do for you in their shop. I just wish they had longer hours for the weekend warriors!

  139. Amen to that, and you can’t find better customer service than at Tiffin Hardware!

  140. Joe’s breakdown is accurate and useful. May all 3 stores flourish in our fair community. Maybe my first impression of Lowes was an opening weekend glitch.
It will be a convenient option to get things that Ace does not stock.

I’m old enough to remember Schwable’s Hardware, now the site of the county lot next to the old LaSalles Dept Store. Ace is as close to Schwable’s as it is possible to get in terms of old fashioned service.

  141. Asa: I’ll bet you bought alot of buckets and rags at that old Schwable’s store!

  142. I got a few sponges there from time to time and a straw hat in 1910 that I wore for 40 years. When I enlisted in the cavalry in 1896, I had my last draft beer across the street in the Pan Yan. The streets were full of horse hockey and the sidewalks peppered with dandies in spats and strawberry blondes twirling parasols. The Shawhan and Morcher House were filled with drummers hitting the spittoons from 15 feet. Sam Cupp ran a catfish and card house at the Ogontz Club, and on Friday nights the rubes came into town and got free lunch at the Octagon and Sons Bar.

  143. The plaudits for ACE are largely right-on!
The same applies to Mager’s. They are tops in their own right.
LOWE’s is a unique story too. That is a unique operation. I have been there a few times, and have yet to find a grumpy employee. Even more, I was soooooo thrilled with the service I received from the checker-clerk the last time I was there that I plan to make special effort to locate the Store Manager and speak first-hand about the great service I received from the checker. She is top-of-the-line! She did not act as though I was infringing on her time. She HELPED me, and….. she saved me money. Having been a checker myself, I know she touched all the bases and made certain that the “customer is king.” TIFFIN is fortunate to have all three: ACE, Magers, and LOWE’s. I complimented one of the young men who helped me load and told him how grateful I am to have the store in town. He said: “I’m grateful for LOWE’s too, because NOW I have a JOB!” Let’s be grateful for all of our solid retail outlets.

  144. I haven’t been in to Lowe’s yet, but I know that I had a project here once, where I only needed a small piece of drywall. Magers was the only place in town who could help me – AND at an extremely small price, to boot.

  145. Just wanted to know what you thought-I went and got dog licenses today and with the license came a special envelope and a bone magnet promoting Ms Adkens. We have never had this in the past, is this to promote her name? I tossed both of them in the trash so it was money wasted. Couldn’t we put this money to better use, or cut the cost of tags. I doubt she paid for them out of her big salary.

  146. I HOPE THAT IT WAS HER MONEY THAT PAID FOR THAT BONE MAGNET IF THIS IS TRUE. I ALSO THINK THAT SHERIFFS THAT PUT THEIR NAMES ON ALL THEIR VEHICLES SHOULD BE AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE. WHY SHOULD THE TAXPAYERS PAY FOR PROMOTING THEIR NAMES AS A AUDITOR OR SHERIFF. THEY SHOULD PAY FOR IT.

  147. I received the bone magnet in the mail with the tags. It also have the name and phone number of the county and city dog warden.

  148. I saw the name Adkens and ditched the thing….I did not care for that and the waste of money to promote reelection in a budget crunch county like ours. I agree with you fish bones-they should pay for their own names.

  149. I was hosed! I paid for a Dog License. Received one in the mail, and was not favored with a Bone Magnet.. Makes me wonder if I belong to the wrong party! I did see her magnified name on the envelop! [At least it's not as large as the SAUBER SIGN!]

  150. Ken T: Maybe your dog ate it.

  151. Better call and tell her you want your bone-trust me, you paid for it. I threw my envelope out, but did it cost more postage to send the bone if anyone still has it. I would be curious with over 12,000 dogs in this county the total extra cost.

  152. What is up with the cablevision freezing up and staying on the same picture forever? Is it because of the magnetic field from all the magnets in the Auditor’s office?

  153. Anon – And, considering most dogs in this county can’t even read…….

The problem with our cable service, fish tail, is that Time-Warner digital cable is basically crap. We got digital cable the second week of Jan this year, and since then, we’ve had service people out here TWELVE TIMES! When we just had basic cable – since it was still Continental Cablevision – we had them out here probably less than five times, total.

Their excuse is that, with everything switching over to digital, there will be disruptions in the service from time to time, until it’s all finished in ‘09.

Makes me wonder what’s going to happen after that. If everyone’s cable service will be this rotten after the FCC mandated switchover, I predict a lot of people (including me) will be buying a dish.

  154. Puddin-
Thanks for explaining about the cable-I think I will start checking into a dish. This is getting crazy. It would be wonderful if we had another cable company to choose.

My dog does not read either…..she would have preferred a real bone and not the magnet.

  155. I think cablevision rates are too high, and I’ve often wondered if it could be a metered utility, just like electricity, where you pay for what you use. My household doesn’t watch much TV, but I suppose if the TV was on all of the time, the rate might seem more reasonable.

  156. Hi Fish Tail. I think we may be distant relatives.

  157. I think there could be some distance between us, but I am sure we are related.
Good to see you on the ole laptop this morning as I drove by your house. I hope you are solving world problems so early in the day.

  158. I just picked up my mail, postage due from the Auditor’s Office and I did get the magnet in it. Thank you so much for the gift since I had to pay YOUR postage bill. $15 for a dog tag, a stupid piece of metal, and a magnet-what a deal. How many people actually put the tags on-I would rather make a few people work if my dog is on the loose….they can find me. BTW-he is inside all the time and we have a fenced in yard-we never let him leave our site when he is outside. What about all the people without licenses that let their dogs run loose to poop in my yard? I should return the favor and poop in their yards. BAA HUMBUG!

  159. Don’t forget me-
I do not have a tree-
    It better be up-
or I am taking YOUR pup!

  160. I have Dish. The only problem, which is rare, is a temp. disruption of service due to weather. It never needs repair. I have one dish for two televisions. I would never want cable.

  161. Scout – Is the weather related disruption due to ice or snow on the dish? I always wondered about that.

  162. Yes. But It really has to be a wet heavy snow before it makes a difference. Also if a huge storm is brewing in the atmosphere, the picture will become pixilated. It usually clears up in just a few minutes. My dish is located on a posted set in concrete. This is important because, the ground is heavy clay, and when wet, can cause the dish to move slightly if not stable in concrete.

  163. Thanks for the info Scout! Now we need to find some Seneca County topics to discuss.

  164. Dog poop-wise, I endorse flinging the offending poop back into the yard of the offending canine owner. Let the slob track the offal onto his own pristine carpets and grind the digested Gro-Pup into the waffled soles of his own size 13 Nikes. A decade of this payback may result in the slob putting up a fence for his bounding hounds or not.

When witnessing a prissy pet walker letting Rover drop a load on your lawn, a stern hollar from the front porch is usually effective. Rushing out with a shovel and paper bag and presenting the Poop Enabler with a hot sack of Rover’s load is also a good ploy.

Finally, get your jollies by witnessing your neighbor pet owner slob tip toeing through the excrement mine field as he goes out in the AM to get his A-T on the front lawn. Or enjoy the cursing from his lawn guy or house painter squashing through Rover’s deposits as you enjoy morning coffee from your kitchen vantage point.
The lawn guy especially enjoys mowing through a sea of Rover dung with his rotary machine.

Setting said bag on fire and putting in on the front porch is also enjoyable to watch, but I’m sure the authorities would have something to say about that…..
