What do you think?

Being as I am a wild and crazy person, I have been thinking of a map to eliciting change for the county.  Presumptuous? Perhaps. But I actually do think that I might have a few good ideas. I also think many members of the Seneca County Blogging Community have some good ideas. It is obvious we all care a great deal, but we need to do more than talk.

First, I am thinking of making the blog, a dot com. Everything would be the same, but the SCB would have some flexibility. As an example, if we wanted a page to post items for sale for our readers at no cost, we could do that. Currently we are not set-up to allow for sale ads. Perhaps we could set-up inexpensive ads for businesses. And we could have a page of links for businesses, something no one else does. In other words, help folks conduct business.

We would still be our same, ol’ fun selves, and you would be automatically directed to the new URL.

So tell me what you think, and ask any questions that come to mind. ( I will be posting the other ideas  separately.)

  1. Sounds good.

  2. Better yet we could have auctions where bloggers sell unwanted items to the highest bidder. Items like fish heads and fish tails, autographed photos of Senator Blutarski or Soupy Sales. Just think Junior could unload old campaign buttons and signs, or all of that personalized stationery from his days as prosecutor – makes great scratch paper for doodling and such! Will you be accepting payments through PayPal?

  3. I hadn’t thought about auctions. My first thought was to let folks post for sale items like a classified ad. I have always been concerned that there is no county-wide listing for businesses. The Seneca County site is owned by Boroff and you must pay to have a link, even non-profits.

  4. All the people that ran for political office could sell off old signs brochures etc and donate the proceeds to charity.

  5. I suspect that scout might be trying to sell those dogs and cats that people keep leaving at his/her place.

  6. Damn. You figured me out.

  7. FOR SALE:
    Used galvanized buckets and squeegees.
Call GI7-####, and ask for Asa.

  8. Fish Head, I suggest collecting all the used campaign signs to build a shanty town on the public square for those of us that can’t afford to pay our RE taxes. The Sauber Sign could be the mobile collection center for old campaign signs.

  9. Where’s “Hoobert Heever” when we need him?

  10. We could build a whole new courthouse with Saubers signs.

  11. We could probably get Nutter to donate his signs to the cause since he won’t be needing them for another commissioner campaign. Word on the street is that he’s going to make a run for Wagner’s seat . Anyone else hear anything?

  12. I have heard the same thing

  13. What would Sauber do if… There’s a Columbus job for Sauber, he could be Nutter’s aid. He has had plenty of experience.

  14. Will the voters of the district want a part-time state representative?

  15. absolutely not! i just thought pearly whites and beer man could receive the get out of county card and our problems in the county would be solved a little faster; but you are right fish head, progress isn’t just about the county anymore, it is about regions and districts working together. My bad. Hercules and I have only been thinking about eliminating the enemy within… Time for a change, here’s our “sign”!

  16. Will the Big Red Truck transport him to the State House?

  17. It’s no wonder nothing positive ever gets done in this county, too many people sitting around whining about the county commissioners and / or everybody else who tries to step up and do some good here. It’s so easy to sit in that back seat isn’t it? Constructive critisism is an important aspect of how our government is supposed to run, but too many have fallen into the “us vs. them” , “red vs. blue”, or just “hate the government” mentality. But I digress:

Scout, I like the idea of boosting our local businesses as much as possible. And if we can help and support them by implementing your idea, great, I say go for it. Anything that will stop, or even slow down the downhill slide we’re in. Who donates to local events? Local businesses. Who provides prizes, and gifts for charity events? Local businesses. Sometimes I wonder how they can afford to be so generous to our community when the community shows so little support..

Things will get better, they always do, and if we show support for our local businesses, we could improve the entire community. It’s up to us to roll up our sleeves and “git er done”. The federal government won’t do it, the state government won’t do it, but the county and local government is here, willing to try, and working hard every day.

Count me in Scout, and if I can help, let me know.

  18. I agree doright. Our businesses give and give some more. We just have to remember that this county is based on the people who live here, not the government. I say let’s throw down the negative sword and start using our positive words and actions or we will find that our children won’t have a place to call home! Hercules and I are in! Let’s git er done!

  19. hey, while we’re at it, can we paint the red truck, and paint it blue because it suggests trustworthiness and stability and orange because it suggests vibrant and energetic. It’s what we are all looking for when we are being negative. We just need a change!

  20. Thank you for your input, and your help. I have always felt that this site is unique in many regards, but mostly for the folks to make the blog interesting. We come from all walks of life, and without your input, this blog would be nothing more than my opinion, (as important as that is :-) What will happen, then, is I will purchase space at a host, and we will take it from there. I am going to guess it not happen without a few bumps, but that is the nature of the internet. but like I said, there is absolutely no website that unites the county, everything is piecemeal. So if the mountain will not come to Muhammad, Muhammad will create the web mountain.

I should also remind you all that the commissioners job is, sadly, considered part-time by our state.

I really think that what is comes down to is that we must work to save ourselves. The folks who have been in charge have tried, but sadly, things are not getting better.

  21. It’ll be a two for one deal. Nutter will need a caddy, so Sauber will tag along. Then, who knows? If Illinois can elect Blago for governor, why not Nutter in Ohio?

  22. The whole concept sounds good to me!

  23. To xenawarrior. He should paint that truck red, white and blue!

  24. Hi! Ma name’s Sally. I’m offrin the use of ma husbund’s 4 ba 4 ta tow the Sawber Sine round town and clect all the ole campane sines frum the polticens. I ain’t got no lisense, but ma good frend Dale Willyums has offerd tado the drivin.

  25. Saw Dale Williams down at the Sweeper Shop. He was buy’n new sweeper bags. Said he had been sweeping dust bunnies from the vacated office of the MIMSC.

  26. Dale mite need ma husbunds huntin dog ta chase out thoes big bunnys.

  27. I just knew something sucked about Dale Williams…

  28. How about growing up and dropping the Dale Williams issue? It is getting old.

  29. speak, if we paint the truck red, white and blue that would be an insult to all those who serve for all the right reasons not for political gain to do nothing more than nothing but flash his pearly whites at the camera during a swearing in ceremony – maybe black for the darkside of the force.

  30. Xena, point well taken! As for the Dale Williams topic, I think bloggers like Sally, Joe and Harvey are just trying to lighten things up a little. The blog gets very serious sometimes.

  31. Thanks, speak easy. You had me figured out. Additionally, your statement that the blog gets very serious is reflective of the entire community. I wish more people would lighten up a little bit. As far as “growing up” goes, I have always been told that the ability to lighten things up is a sign of maturity, anon.

  32. Joe Clevis and George W can not be gone soon enough!

  33. Bridinger was making the rounds wishing everyone a good new year-I was getting my dog license and happened to see him coming out of the offices. That a guy!

  34. Please allow anon fill-out job ap’s. He does not have time for idle foolishness.

  35. Hey Clevis. Will you be changing your picture for the new Obama Presidency?

  36. CHANGE? Not in Seneca County!

  37. That was a given with the elections-we could not oust the current 2 commissioners. Bernard was way too easy to get rud of, and the writing was on the wall for Jr.

  38. It is time for those who want change to make change happen, but we cannot do it just complaining on a blog about what isn’t. Yes, we were fools for not ousting the 2 we have spoken ill of many times on this blog, so…

This new idea Scout has asked us to support could be beneficial because information is power. Community development is based on shared power. Citizens who have current information on economic, environmental, social and cultural issues are better able to respond to community concerns.

Like I’ve said before, the county isn’t about government, it is about the people who reside in the county who want to make a better quality of life for the next generations to come.

  39. Xenawarrior is correct about information power and citizens action to improve quality of life. Regarding dot coms ….I will say that .govs and .edus are usually pervceived as more credible information with less bias but I understand Scouts goal.
Scout – will the new site be for Seneca County or just Tiffin?

  40. The whole county. Not one single person, group, entity, etc. has ever constructed an inclusive website.I love the blog, but I want links for businesses that are free. And we could have advertising too. But I want something cohesive. I want to attract folks from around the area to share ideas, and spearhead groups who can make positive change.

  41. Someone please remind me not to send a Valentine to “anon.” For the rest of y’all, Laura joins me in extending warm wishes for the inaugur…the enawgur…the innauger…shoot, the swearing-in thingie, and beyond! (That’s why you don’t mess with Texas!)

  42. I do not want your valentine-I do not feel the love from you!

  43. Joe: I think the “swearing in thingie” was going to be on Monday the 19th, but guess what, that’s Martin Luther King Day.

Joe: Will Barney be sending Scout a Valentine’s card?

  44. Hey money! Thanks for the questions.

    (1) From what my senior advisers are tellin’ me, the swearing-in thingie is set for January 20 by the U.S. Constitution. Wish they would’a told me at that Constitution thing awhile back. Never heard of it until now, and I could’a used some of it before now. Maybe Jeb will use it when we fix the next Presidential election for him!

    (2) Either Barney or Laura. Same thing, different gender according to Cheney!

  45. Oops. Forgot tuh put in muh last name on that previous post. Still tryin’ to get used tuh this dot.com thingie!

  46. Whether it’s Joe, Joe C, Joe Clevis, JC, Joseph Clevis, Mr. Clevis or just Clevis; comment (2) was pretty damn funny!

  47. Inquiring minds want to know: Now that your out of the Whitehouse, will the Secret Service let you use the “internets?”

  48. Senator Ted Stevens told me the internets is made of a series of tubes. I’m kinda afraid of tubes because of everything else I’ve touched has gone down ‘em!

And, I gotta correct ya. I’m still in the White House. There’s an old saying from out west, “I’m in charge until the new sheriff gets here.”

So, Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again!!!

  49. Sorry for giving you the bums rush. Please enjoy the last couple of weeks, but on the 20th make sure you leave a light on in the Lincoln Bedroom.

  50. We’re plannin’ to leave all the lights on (and none of them wussy curly Q fluorescents), the heat turned up, the winders open and everything, just to give Gore a heart attack about all the energy he says we’re wastin’. I say it’s good for the ‘conomy anyways.

  51. Will you be personally attending the “closing” and the passing of the keys to Barry & Michelle?

  52. Hi, ma names Sally. If ya need ma husbunds 4 ba 4 fur movin day, the offers still good. I like helpin polticens. Im figrin you could hull alot of s*** in dat Sawber Sine trayler.

  53. Nah, money. Cheney’s gonna handle at that, and afterwards he’s goin’ huntin’ (if ya know whatamean) with Blago. They’ll prolly need that Sawber trailer for after the hunt.

  54. Does Dick “keeper of the keys” Cheney carry around one of those huge key rings like a custodian, or does he have a giant, gold master key?

  55. To Joe Clevis aka George: The lights at night are big and bright, deep in the heart of Texas.

To Harvey Hofensburger: The rabbits rush around the brush, deep in the heart of Texas.
